Dear Residents,
The issue that I wish to raise and solicit your views on is as follows:
1 Introduction:
The aim of allocating certain open areas within each colony, as parks, is to provide green spaces in order to improve the environment and make it more pleasant. This is all the more essential in colonies like ours where we are obliged to remain confined to our flats with no adequate space to stretch out when we require. This is especially so with regards to children and the seniors. Also, since we are living in multi-storied flats there is no place in our flats to maintain a garden. Hence, the aim of these parks is to provide common gardens nearby, where the residents, especially our children and seniors, could relax. Further, many flats do not have adequate sun. So, again the children and the seniors, suffer in the flats, especially in winter when they would like to enjoy sun and fresh air. Goes without saying that sun is essential, especially for seniors, from point of view of health of their aging bones.
2. In our colony, these parks have been neglected. Little efforts have been made over the last 20 years plus, to develop them as real parks, for recreation of all residents. Having had the occasion to look at some neighboring colonies, I find that they have done much better and have developed good Parks.
3. The question that I am going to ask for views, is also related to the question raised elsewhere on this website (Potholes in the tennis court). A small number of people, are using these parks for sports such as cricket and football. This is at the cost of denial of these Parks to the large number of residents around these. Besides raising a lot of dust and noise pollution, in the process of their play, the Parks cannot be planted with grass and flower-beds unless they stop playing.
4. Now the question I am asking and on which I welcome views, is:
"Should the Parks in the colony be developed into proper gardens or should these be allowed to continue as of now?"
Thanks & Regards,

Parks
hs Posted at 06:49 on Sun, 05/24/2009We must segregate the parks as ornamental and for play since children definitely need space to play.We also need to look at the condition of swings, slides in the parks.
Regarding Parks
admin_nawa Posted at 06:32 on Sun, 05/17/2009Hi
While I agree that the parks need to be developed and that grass needs to be grown in quite a few of them (especially the track park where the situation is simply not good), I don't think it would be right to not allow people to play in the parks. In fact I do not think that the people playing in the park are responsible for their (parks')bad condition. Also where else will people play if they won't play in the parks?
Perhaps the best solution to the above problem can be:
a) Develop all parks ie grow grass etc in them. For this, some of us should volunteer and make some efforts to help NAWA. (I am willing.)
b) Classify some parks as
1) Those for playing.
2) Those for senior citizens.
This way everyone can be happy. I invite others to voice their opinions.

Regarding Parks
rsp Posted at 01:37 on Mon, 05/18/2009Regarding the above:
1. The intention is not to prevent children from playing, but this should not be at the expense of making the parks barren. In small parks like in our colony one cannot, for example, play cricket and also expect the park to be developed. Games like cricket and football run against the grain of gardening. The small children can, however, play without damaging the garden.
2. While the above is for small children, but not possible for grownups to play cricket and football unless they do at the expense of coming in the way of development of parks which are needed for the purpose these have been provided.
3. Even in big parks like the one in GK2, games like cricket and football are not permitted. Nor it is in any other colony except in Nilgiri.
4. It seems highly selfish and insensitive for a small group, playing cricket
and football at the expense of others who also wish to relax there.
5. The parks have already been classified and the track park has been earmarked for playing by small children up to a certain age group. We do not have so many sizable parks that we can earmark more for games.
6. As for funds, firstly, these are to be developed by the MCD if we chase them enough. Secondly, the Colony Management should find out how our neighboring colonies have managed to develop their parks. We can follow the same route. Thirdly, in case we have to keep certain gardeners, the management has the capacity. Fourthly, if a levy is still needed, the subject should be discussed in the general body and appropriate levy applied.
I would like more subscribers to express their views.
